Well folks, sorry for the month long hiatus from the blog. I think both David and I needed a break, but I promise that the blog will be back in action for the fall.
I just wanted to say welcome to all the new students that move in today. I'm always torn this time of year, on one hand I am excited for the new students to arrive but on the other hand I know their time with us is at an end. Good luck and best wishes to all the new students...and don't forget to thank your admission counselor ;).

Academic Curriculum
I had a question emailed to me that I think a lot of folks have, so I wanted to address it on the blog.
_______________________
Hello,
Right now, I am choosing my classes for senior year, and I have enough credits to have a "free period", where I could be an office aide or a teacher's aide. This is what I was going to do, but then my Dean of Studies mentioned that being an office aide doesn't look good, and it looks as though I am slacking off. I was wondering what your opinion was on that, and how being an office aide would affect my chances of possible admission.

Here is my response:
The question you are asking is very relative. Think of it this way:
Student 1:
Calculus________A
Spanish ________A
Lab Biology ____A
Literature _______A
Student 2:
Calculus _______A
Spanish ________A
Office Aide _____A
Literature _______A
In this situation you’re student 2, and student 1 looks better. Here’s another example:
Student 3:
Calculus _______C
Spanish ________C
Lab Biology ____D
Literature _______B
Student 4:
Calculus _______A
Spanish ________A
Office Aide _____A
Literature _______A
In this situation you’re student 4 and you are in better shape than student 3. Student 1 still looks the best, however. The bottom line is this: if all other things are equal, a more academic curriculum will always be more impressive than one that is less academic.
Does this help?

New Ways to Learn About Chapman
Hey folks,
I wanted to give you a heads up on some of the new places to learn more about Chapman University. About a month ago a some folks from YOUniversity.tv came down and filmed a few interviews, and took some footage of campus. We were not the authors of that
project and we think they did a great job. To view our YOUniversity click here.
We've also got our virtual tour online. Click here to access that.
Another website we're joining is called Zinch. It's pretty interesting; it's sort of a social network for students to learn more about colleges and vice versa. Learn more here. Our profile is located here. If you're not a Zinch member, click here.
Naturally a great way to keep updated on Chapman Admission information is to keep your eye on this blog, and as always, don't hesitate to post questions or concerns.

Chapman University goes to the Common Application
Hey folks,
The Common Application is a tool that makes it easier for students to apply to colleges. Lots of schools utilize this tool (click here for a list of schools) and we're excited to be added next year.
This is a pretty short announcement. We just wanted to make sure people knew; we're pretty excited about it over here. We are still setting everything up with Common Application people so it will still be a little while before the application is ready but definitely keep your eyes open - it will be posted before too long.
Thanks for reading! As always, feel free to contact us by posting below.

Chapman University WACAC
One of the things we do over the summer as Admission Counselors is attend various conferences. These conferences allow us time to meet with Counselors from other institutions and learn from one another; what worked, what didn't work, etc.
One such conference is called WACAC and we just got back - the folks planning it did a fantastic job. There are lots of "_ACACs" accross the country including the National Association for College Admission Counselors (NACAC).
We're also excited to announce that Chapman University will be hosting WACAC next year!
Watch our trailer below!

Technology Resolved!
Hey folks,
I'm pleased to announce that our technological issues have been resolved and we resumed our normal process this morning.
That's really all I have to say at this time. Thanks for your understanding as we worked through all of this.
Best wishes,
-David May
