Notification Timeline 2011 - Update

Hello readers!

We wanted to let you know that with an approximate 30% increase in applications (for the 2nd year in a row) we are FLOODED with applications. Some of you have noticed that even though it is past March 15th, you don't have your final decision yet. Fortunately, many of you do have your final decision as of or before March 15th.

A little while back, we wrote this blog post about our notification timeline:

The information in that post is still very accurate, but it's looking like more students will hear from us between March 15th and the first week of April. Our counselors are working tirelessly to read and evaluate all of the files including many nights and weekends. Thanks so much for your patience while we handle this increase in applications.

Best wishes!

Thank you so much for letting us know. It's very difficult to find information about the current admission notifications.

I really hope I get in

When will transfer students hear back? Do we have to wait even longer, like until May?

Hello All!

Let me answer some of your questions.

Firstly, remember that the PantherPage and WebAdvisor are two different things, with different log in information (I know that's frustrating). Panther Page is for prospective students to learn more about Chapman. WebAdvisor is for applicants and students to actually manage their Chapman account. WebAdvisor passwords were hard mailed (for security reasons) to your home and printed on a green sheet of paper. To log on, use the first part of these instructions: http://chappenings.blogspot.com/2010/10/screenr-instructions.html

I hope that helps!

If you are a high school applicant and have still not gotten a response from us we are very sorry! There are some decisions that still need to be sent out and we are working very hard to have them done by the first week of April. If you have not gotten a response, it does not mean "no." It just means, we are 30% up in applications, and it could still be anything.

As for transfers, the vast majority of folks who applied on time will have their decisions by early May. We will keep processing transfer files until we are full.

Hope that information helps, and thanks for reading!

Hi! In response to the question about transfer students, does that mean that we will also have a later deadline to accept and pay our fees?

I understand there is a function on April 10th- My status says decision Pending- If I have to wait for a letter I will miss the event if I did get accepted. There is a blog that says once your status changes you can call and find out over the phone- Is that true?

Anonymous said...

Will our online webadvisor tell us whether or not a decision has been approved or complete by the first week of april? and if we get accepted when should the letter come by? also, should we not call to find out?

Anonymous said...

If we haven't been accepted it won't allow us to RSVP for the preview day. Today is the last day to RSVP though so how will we be able to attend if we are accept later this week?

I posted on April 1st about statust pending- You have a new student day-on Sunday- It seems all the outstanding applications now will be rejected or waitlisted. I think that is sad to put us through this

Hello,

I submitted the application, supplement, SAT scores, and paid the fee on time (Transfer student - March 15). I called the admissions office to ask if the letter of recommendation and transcripts could be a few days late and they said that was okay. So I am assuming everything had been received by around March 25. My status on WebAdvisor still says "Application Incomplete". Should I be worried that I am missing materials that I didn't know about? If so, will I be notified if I still need to send something? Or is this status just because they have not gotten to my application yet?

Thank you so much for any help you can give me!

Hello everyone!

Anonymous #1 - don't worry, transfers will be able to deposit after May 1st.

Anonymous #2 - As a general rule of thumb, we don't give admission decisions over the phone. In years past, after April 1st we have been a little more lenient on that rule because we do want people to have the information they need to make a final decision. I have not gotten word form above that we are doing that again this year. ::more to come::

Anonymous #3 - Webadvisor will tell you when a decision is complete, but unfortunately not what that decision is. Generally, the packet arrives about 7 working days from the time the status changes on WebAdvisor.

Anonymous #4 - If you are accepted late, we'll let you sign up for Preview Day late. If you have trouble, give our office a call.

Anonymous #5 - Some of the remaining decisions will be acceptances, denies, and wait lists. If we have not gotten your decision to you yet, it does not mean that you are denied. Denying students is our very least favorite part of the job - believe me. We know it is sad but unfortunately a necessary part of our process.

Anonymous #6 - Is this still the case? Might not be a bad idea to check with the folks who wrote your letter of recommendation and confirm that they turned everything in. If they did, give our office a call. Two to three weeks is pretty normal for processing documents like this. Know that it 1) comes in the mail 2) has to be sorted 3) has to be scanned 4) has to be digitally assigned to your file, and finally 5) verified/evaluated. This is what takes two to three weeks.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Hello, If my status on webadvisor changed from pending to mailed, and I tried to register for the preview day but once again my username was reejcted, does this mean i was rejected from Chapman?

If I still haven't gotten a letter would it be better to email my admissions counselor to try to find out or call? - Thank you

I still haven't received my WebAdvisor information.
Should I be concerned? Who can I contact to retrieve this information?

If I don't receive a letter by Saturday, can I call to find out if I was accepted?

Hi. My admission status on the portal still says pending and it is already the second week of April, is this normal?

Anonymous #1,

No, it just means you are experiencing some other issue with the log in. Remember, the WebAdvisor password and Panther Page/Events log in are different unfortunately.

Anonymous #2, #3, #5, & #6

If you have not gotten a decision from our office yet *and you turned everything in on time* *and you are a high school applicant (not a transfer student)* give us a call and we can trouble shoot the situation. Many of the high school applicants who do not have decisions yet turned in late documents. This delayed their response.

Anonymous #4,

If you are a freshman applicant, there is definitely something wrong - I would call our office. If you are transfer applicant, this is still possible and it is probably on it's way.

Best wishes everyone and thanks so much for your patience!

I see that transfer students will be notified in early May. My status now says decision mailed. Could that be a bad sign? Or have you started notifying transfer students of acceptances?

Chapman Admission said...

Anonymous,

We have started sending some out early, but it's not a good sign or a bad sign. Just that we are trying to get a head start!

Aww..bummer that doesn't sound too promising. Do you generally send out rejections first while you are still working on finalizing acceptances?
Also, if someone is rejected can that person find out specifically why?

Anonymous said...

Are you now done with all regular admission applications?

Chapman Admission said...

Anonymous #1,

I mean it when I say "it's not a good sign or a bad sign." We read files, and then decide to A) Admit, B) Deny, C) Wait/Ask for more info (updated transcripts etc)/etc. In other words, there is no particular order we send out decisions. It is possible to be admitted early on, or denied early on. It is possible to be admitted later on, or denied later on. The best way to get a decision fast from Chapman, is to make sure 100% of everything is in on time - or even a little early. Then we can process your file early on. If 100% of everything is not in, then we table that file until everything is in, then we can process it.

If someone wants to know the reason for their decision, they can contact their admission counselor. Just remember to keep our academic averages in mind. If someone is far under those, the counselor is likely to point to that. If there are no extra curricular activities, or no community service, the counselor is likely to point to that. If someone applied to a talent program, and the audition/evaluation didn't go well, the counselor is likely to point to that.

Anonymous #2,

For High School applicants for the fall of 2011, yes we are done with the vast majority of those decisions. The ones that are still pending likely turned in something late (possibly very late) or have some other unique situation going on.

I hope that helps - thanks for reading!

Thanks for clarifying. I applied in early February and all my documents were received by the end of February. I was told I had a great audition in October, lots of extracuricular and community service :)
I'll just keep my fingers crossed...

High School applicants for the fall of 2011 that have some other unique situation going on.When will we hear. Before the main deadline? Or do we have to register and lose our money if we are accepted at Chapman. I guess a realistic time line for the unique group needs to be set. Please ang Thank You

I applied for "Late Consideration" as a transfer. Will I also find out in May if I got admitted?
