Notification Timeline

Hello readers,

We have been getting quite a few questions regarding our timeline recently, so we wanted to take a minute to lay it out for everyone.

EARLY ACTION
We hope to send out the first batch of decisions on January 15th. Keep in mind, this is only the FIRST BATCH. Not everyone will find out at that time. Many applicants who applied with a supplemental application (COPA, Art, etc) will most likely not hear on January 15th. These departments have more documents to process, and have to pass through more committees before a decision can be rendered.

We will continue to make decisions on early action students until they are complete. The vast majority of the early action decisions will be complete before we move on to the regular pool.

REGULAR ACTION
We begin deciding on regular decision after early action, so it depends on how many applicants applied early vs. regular. In other words, if 30% applied early, it won't take that long to start sending regular decisions out. If 70% of the pool applied early, it will take along time to get to the regular applicants.

If I remember right, last year's goal was to have the vast majority of the regular action applicants done by March 15th. 99% of the applicants will hear before April 1st; we want you to have a full month before May 1 to decide. May 1 is sort of the unofficial day all of the institutions of higher education have agreed upon as a deposit due date.

I know that's a little foggy; I'll update with another post when I know more. As always, feel free to coment below, or contact us with questions or concerns.

Hey there,

My status recently got changed to "Fall Term Grades Requested". Does that mean I got deferred? Or should I keep checking until it changes to a definite decision?

Thanks

You should update the Collegeboard site; it says January 10th is the Deadline for Chapman to notify students of early action

Hi Anonymous 1,

It actually does not necessary mean deferred, it could mean one or two other things as well. Wait for the letter and your questions will be answered.

Hi Anonymous 2,

You are right - I'll take a look at it. It's tough because there are hundreds of sites out there that take our information from our website and re-post it so it becomes hard to manage all the info out there. We do recommend paying attention first and foremost to the information on our website. Thanks for the 'heads up!'

I have a question, so i applied for early action, and on my status update online it says "roll to regular decision"..what does that mean? I applied for Graphic Design, so i know it takes more time, but how long exactly?

Chapman Admission said...

If your admission is "rolled," that means that the admission committee has decided to wait to make a final decision on your file. There is a letter in the mail that outlines this process further. Your final decision should arrive sometime in early/mid March with the rest of the regular deadline group.

Best wishes!

If my daughter applied using the early application deadline, but just had her theatre audition this past week, does that automatically roll her application into regular action timeframe? Or once the audition is done, does the committee/department make a fairly quick decision?

Thank you!

Anonymous,

We will still allow her to count as an early applicant, but naturally she will have a later notification than the early action folks who completed everything on time.

We may have completed the academic recommendation already. If this is the case, then yes, the decision could be quick after we receive the audition results. However, if we have not completed the academic evaluation yet then it still could be a short while before the packet hits the mail.

I hope this information helps!

Hello,
I applied EA to Dodge for Public Relations/Advertising and I have still not received any notification. My webadvisor stilll reads "decision pending". what does this mean?

Hi,

I recently recieved a rejection letter from my early action application letter to the College of Performing Arts. However in my letter it did not say anything about the dance department necessarily. So I was wondering if it was the dance department which rejected me or the school itself. Is it possible to still be accepted into the school but not the department? Thanks!

Hello,

My status turned into decision mail and i received a mail about applying to Chapman, instead of a letter of acceptance or rejection. should i wait a bit more?

Hello Sophia!

I'm sorry to hear about the outcome of the decision - remember that if you would like to learn about the transfer process, you can do that here: http://www.chapman.edu/admission/transfer.asp

At some schools, it is possible to be admitted to one department, but not the school. At Chapman, we don't do it that way. We want students to be able to study what they want to study and know up front if it is going to be possible. That way we are not 'leading anyone on' if that makes sense.

I hope that information helps! If you have more questions, give your admission counselor a call/email.

Best wishes,

Hello Anonymous,

That is a very strange situation indeed. If your status changed indicating that the decision is in the mail, give it a good 9 business days before worrying. If after that you still don't have anything, give your admission counselor a call or email.

Hello, I applied as a transfer and all of my information was completed on March 17. When should transfer applicants be notified?

Thanks!

It's now April 10th and my Admission Status still says Decision Pending. When can I expect a decision to be made?

Anonymous said...

I was told that once your admission status changes to "decision mailed", you can call the Admissions office and they will reveal the decision to you via phone since it is so much later than April 1st. But each time I called today, they said no counselors were available. What should I do?

Chapman Admission said...

Hello rbk,

We hope to have transfer decisions out by early May. We have started sending the first few out already actually.

Anonymous #1,

Was everything in your application in on time? If yes, give your counselor a call and they should be able to give you an update over the phone.

Anonymous #2,
You're right - After April 1, once your status has changed you can call our office for a decision. If no counselors were available, that just means they were in a meeting, etc. Try again at a later time, and if you can't get anyone tell them David May said he'd help you.

Best wishes everyone!
